• Counsellors, therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists are all professionals who help people with mental health concerns, but their roles and expertise can vary.

Therapists is a broader term often used interchangeably to refer to mental health professionals.

Counsellors have a master’s degree and are trained to provide guidance and support to help people cope with personal and emotional challenges.

Psychologists have a doctoral degree in psychology and specialize in diagnosing and treating mental health disorders.

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in mental health and can prescribe medication for mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.

My practice falls under the “Counsellor” category, where my goal is to help you look inward to find understanding, acceptance, and resilience in a safe and compassionate setting.

  • Counselling is a compassionate and understanding source of support that involves my active guidance during our sessions to help you understand and address personal, social, or mental health challenges. This is done through counselling and psychotherapy.

Counselling and psychotherapy are often used interchangeably, but there are some general differences between them.

Counselling is usually short-term and focuses on specific challenges you are facing. It provides you with guidance, support, and practical solutions to help with your immediate concerns. Counselling emphasizes problem-solving, skill-building, and equips you with tools to cope with difficulties.

On the other hand, psychotherapy is a longer-term process that explores your deeper psychological patterns, thoughts, and emotions. It aims to understand the root causes of your mental and emotional distress, and it promotes personal growth, self-awareness, and insight. Psychotherapy involves delving into your past experiences, relationships, and underlying beliefs.

My practice offers a safe and confidential environment where you can freely explore your emotions, experiences, and behaviours; gain valuable insights into your challenges; and develop effective strategies to manage and overcome them. Depending on your needs and circumstances, we will figure out the best approach for you.

  • Counselling is an excellent options for those who are struggling with emotional distress, personal or relationship problems, or looking to enhance their overall well-being.

If you are unsure whether counselling is a good fit for you, here are some questions to consider:

    1. ANXIETY / DEPRESSION : Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed?

    2. RELATIONSHIPS : Are you experiencing issues or conflicts in your relationships with others?

    3. LIFE TRANSITION : Are you dealing with a challenging life transition or significant change?

    4. TRAUMA : Have you experienced trauma or abuse that still deeply affects you?

    5. UNCERTAINTY : Do you feel stuck or unsure about how to move forward in your life?

    6. SUPPORT: Have you tried other coping methods or self-help techniques, but still feel like you need extra support?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, counselling could be a helpful option for you.

Throughout the process, I will make sure to provide you with a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered to make positive changes in your life.
